OUR FOCUS
Sharing the love of bikes with children in need.
The Bike Library takes community donated bikes, refurbishes them and then donates them throughout the Waikato region.
We focus on:
- Donating bikes to kids who are being raised by a caregiver who is not their natural parent
- Receiving bikes from the community, refurbishing them and on donating them
- Being able to swap the bike when you grow out of it for a bigger one
- Teaching safe riding skills and simple bike maintenance
- Getting kids out on bikes in the community
- Learning life skills by using a bike
Teaching kids their ABC's
We believe it’s important to teach children the basics of maintenance so they can care for their bikes and take pride in keeping them in good condition. If they ever need help with this, we run clinics to teach them everything they will need to be successful custodians of their bike. This starts with the basics, their ABC’s…
A. Air
All bikes are supplied with a bike pump if one is not already owned. We teach the children how to pump the tyres and how much air is required.
B. Brakes
We reinforce that before you ride, you need to be sure that the brakes are in good working order.
C. Chain
We teach the children how to recognize if their chain needs a clean and some oil or grease and how to apply these things to keep everything running smooth.
“He has donated time and bikes to members of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren throughout the Waikato. This is huge to children who come into whanau care with little or nothing in their possession.
Thank you so much Graeme”
